What to Expect From a Timber Harvest
Timber assessment: Our team of professional foresters will conduct a thorough assessment of your timber to determine its value and identify any potential hazards or issues that may need to be addressed prior to harvest.
Purchasing Process: Assuming you want to move forward with the timber sale, we will conduct a title search to verify ownership and any possible liens against the timber. A closing date will then be set at which point a timber deed will be signed and payment will be made. All timber deeds cease at the end of the contract period (usually 2 years) or at the completion of harvest and timber rights revert back to the landowner. We can also buy your timber on a “pay as cut” basis, wherein we don’t pay you for your timber up front and acquire a deed. Rather, we give you contract prices for each product and pay for all products hauled on a weekly basis.
Harvest planning: Once the assessment and purchase is complete, we'll work with you to develop a harvest plan that meets your unique goals and objectives. This plan will include details such as the timing of the harvest, the specific areas of your property that will be harvested, and the extent of the harvest.
Harvesting: During the harvest, we'll use professional, certified, and experienced logging contractors to carefully remove the designated trees. We'll make sure that the harvest is done in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, and we'll follow all state Best Management Practices to minimize any potential impact on water quality and soil health.
Post-harvest cleanup: After the harvest is complete, our team will ensure that the site is properly cleaned up to meet state Best Management Practices standards. We'll also work with you to address any other issues that may have arisen during the harvest.
Site preparation and reforestation: All timber harvests leave a mess to some extent, but we will strive to leave the site as clean as possible. Within 1-2 years following the harvest, proper site preparation and reforestation should occur to ensure that the site is restored to a healthy, productive forest. With proper reforestation, the site should be back to an aesthetically pleasing state within 5 years.
